This 90 hour lecture course provides the first step to preparing students for a career as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician. The program begins with the healthcare delivery system, collection of materials and equipment, venipuncture and capillary techniques, and medical, legal and ethical implications of blood collection. Students will complete 30 venipuncture and 10 capillary sticks before the completion of the course to be eligible to sit for the National Certification Exam given by NHA. Upon successful completion of the Phlebotomy course, students will be eligible to complete a hands-on clinical externship at a local healthcare facility. Students will complete 80 hours at a local healthcare facility under direct supervision. Schedules are only Monday thru Friday 6am to 4pm. Please plan ahead of time for schedule arrangements. The coordinator of the Phlebotomy 1 will make schedules for students. Students must adhere to their schedule and complete the assigned hours.
